Winter in Tahoe

It’s snowing, it’s snowing! Oh, sorry, does anything else really matter? Now that it is snowing, it’s time to start thinking of fun things to do with that snow. The Tahoe Rim Trail Association is leading several snowshoe and backpack trips in February and March that will get you out on the snow, teach you about the natural history of Tahoe, and even give you a chance to learn how to backpack in the winter:

February 14, Sweetheart Sunset Snowshoe. Tahoe Meadows. Hike to beautiful views of Mt. Rose and Lake Tahoe, while enjoying a bit of wine and other goodies. Free.

February 20, Trail Talk and Trek. Learn more about the programs of the Tahoe Rim Trail Association on this free snowshoe in Tahoe Meadows.

March 1st, Martis Peak Snowshoe Trek. Enjoy a heart pumping, but moderate climb to the Martis Peak Lookout, where the views seem to go on forever. Free.

March 8, Winter Animals Snowshoe. Turn the kids into snow detectives as they follow animal tracks and learn what they mean from a guide with the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science. Free.

March 15, Winter Wildlife Survival Snowshoe. Ever wonder how Sierra animals and birds make it through our challenging winters? A scientist from the Tahoe Institute For Natural Science will enlighten you on the fascinating and incredible steps animals take to survive under the snow. Free.

March 29-30 Snow Camping 101. Here’s your chance to spend a night out in the snow…on purpose. Join a dozen other folks, and experienced guides, while becoming a confident winter backpacker. You will learn what to bring, how to stay warm and how to Leave No Trace. This class is just $50 for Tahoe Rim Trail Association members.
