What are the best beaches in North Tahoe? Well that really depends upon what you are looking
for. Several beaches are spectacularly beautiful, but also spectacularly busy, while others might
be smaller, but have their own allure and flair. Are you looking for a place to jump in the lake
after a hike or bike, an easy place to launch your kayak or paddle board, or want to spend the
day baking in the sand? Also, the one that might be right for you, is the private one that is tied to
the property you are renting.

Here are a few thoughts:

Sand Harbor, Incline Village 

This beach is the number one beach in beauty, but also in the number of folks who want to go
there. It’s a lovely stretch of white sand with crystal green and blue waters and granite boulders.
A new reservation system has just been instituted for use because the hordes of folks trying to
get into the parking lot early in the morning backs up traffic on Highway 28, the main connection
between Tahoe and Carson City. So go if you must, but assume you will have to get up early
and wait in line to get in. But perhaps, instead of adding to the congestion, either choose
another beach, take a shuttle bus from Incline or walk or ride in on the three mile long East

Waterman’s Landing, Carnelian Bay

This beach is popular with locals, but often it is not too busy. It is composed of small rocks instead
of a sandy beach. While rocks are not as soft as sand, you can get in and out of the water
without having sand stick to everything, which makes for a cleaner experience. Waterman’s has
an onsite kayak and paddleboard renting operation as well as a small restaurant.

Kings Beach

The half-mile-long Kings Beach is a good choice for families. It is crowded, but the water is
shallow and warm, and it’s a lovely bit of sand. Being right in town there are lots of restaurants
and other services just a quick jaunt from the water. My favorite chicken burrito can be found at
Burrito Window across the street from the beach.

Meeks Bay

This public beach operated by the Washoe Tribe is a beautiful swath of sand, with lovely green
and blue water. While busy, it has a nice relaxed ambiance. It’s also located at the terminus of
the west shore bike trail, so stay out of your car and ride to the beach. It’s also across the
highway from the hiking trail into Crag Lake and Desolation Wilderness, and makes a great
place for an after hike swim.

Tahoe City Commons

Across the street from The Cobblestone, where Hauserman Rental Group is located, is The
Commons. The beach is fairly small, but there is a nice grassy area above and a playground
with a view. It’s also in the center of town and is part of a mile-long trail that makes for a lovely
stroll along the lakeshore.
