The Alpenglow Mountain Festival, the Winter Edition, will be held from February 14th through March 2nd in Tahoe City and around North Lake Tahoe. The festival includes a packed schedule of events, giving folks of every ability the opportunity to learn a new sport, get better at what they enjoy, or just meet others interested in human powered winter activities.
Events will include backcountry and cross-country ski lessons and clinics with top instructors, an avalanche course, snowshoe tours, and a host of evening events to get you charged up and ready to get back out there the next day. And almost everything is free.

Here’s a few marquee events to consider:
The Cobblestone Relays. This twilight race includes a series of short, quick skate ski laps around the Winter Sports Park (the summer time Tahoe City Golf Course) and through the Cobblestone Mall parking lot in Tahoe City. Whether you are interested in participating, or just want to be up close and personal while the skiers fly by and you are enjoying a warm drink, be sure and check out this race. February 26, 5:30 PM
The Dynafit Nachtspektaken: A German night ski touring event in which participants will ski to the top of High Camp at Squaw (on backcountry ski gear), then enjoy food, drink and party time, before skiing back down under the lights. February 22, 4 PM
Gran Fondo’s are popular long distance cycling events held throughout the world. The folks at Alpenglow decided that we need a cross-country ski version here at Tahoe, and they have arranged for Truckee resident Katerina Nash, an Olympic cross-country skier and mountain bike racer from the Czech Republic to be the leader. February 23, 9 AM.
Sweetheart Sunset Snowshoe. Join the Tahoe Rim Trail Association on a Full Moon snowshoe hike in Tahoe Meadows on the Mt. Rose Highway on Valentine’s Day. What could be finer then enjoying the moon and the evening colors with a sweetie? February 14, 4:30 PM.
Spend an evening getting an Introduction to Avalanche Safety with one of Tahoe’s favorite and inspiring avalanche instructors, Lel Tone. February 17, 7 PM.
